Pet Loss Grief Support – Why we need to take pet loss seriously
The bond between humans and animals is profoundly deep, often rivaling or even surpassing human relationships. Our animal children offer unconditional love, loyal companionship and emotional security, becoming integral members of our family. Many of us consider our dogs & cats to be our soulmates. When a pet passes away, the grief can feel overwhelming, yet it’s a type of life altering loss that society often undervalues or misunderstands. This unique pain deserves much more recognition and compassionate support.
Grief is a change you didn’t want to happen.
MAR (Meaningful Animal Remembrance) Pet Loss Support is available to anyone and everyone around the world. As an animal chiropractor and rehabilitation practitioner, I have the privilege of working with countless beloved pets and their families, particularly geriatric dogs and cats. I witness my clients go through the unbearable heartbreak and long, dark journey ahead that comes with pet loss grief. Having experienced my own profound pet loss grief, I understand how isolating this grief can be. That experience, along with the gap I notice in meaningful, group and/or one-on-one grief support, inspired me to pursue certification as a pet loss grief specialist.
Pet loss grief is unique because it encompasses not only the emotional pain of losing a best friend, child, soulmate, daily companion… but it’s also the loss of a very involved daily routine, a pure source of comfort and a piece of one’s identity. It’s common to feel misunderstood when grieving a pet, as others may unintentionally minimize the loss.
This is where specialized support can make a difference. Talking to someone who understands this unique grief, especially a professional with a background in animal care and rehabilitation, can provide validation, coping tools and a safe space for healing.
I offer personalized pet loss grief support via phone, Zoom, or in person. My approach blends professional expertise, years of experience supporting pet owners, and a deep empathy for the unbearable pain of losing a beloved animal. There is no greater pain than losing your child. My goal is not only to help you express & process your grief (on your terms) and provide a safe, non-judgemental space but also to honor the relationship & memory of your pet and find ways, when you’re ready, to carry their love forward in your life.
Grieving a pet is one of the hardest things many of us will ever endure. Whether you’re struggling to navigate the early days of loss or seeking closure months/years later, compassionate and understanding support is available.
