Why Do MAR Animal Physical Rehabilitation?

• Pre and Post Op to support tissue healing, encourage scar tissue remodeling, increase passive/active ROM & mobility while preventing muscle contractures & permanent loss of ROM function (post TPLO)

• Increased Trunk and Core Strength for all ages to minimize back & limb compensatory injuries

• Stabilization of Weak Areas to help prevent musculoskeletal injuries and compensatory repetitive stress

• Improved Balance and Body Position Awareness, helps aging and injured animals as they lose neuromuscular control

• Increased Range of Motion in Joints & Elongation of the Muscles with eccentric contractions and static/dynamic stretching protocols

• Helps support functional growth for predisposed or early onset conditions

• Promotes confidence, increased endorphin release, non surgical/pharmaceutical option for pain management, allows pet parents to play a more significant role with healthcare management at home

• Decreases likelihood of getting injured or needing surgery

• Are less likely to have severe arthritis & less discomfort if they get or have arthritis with better OA management outcomes

• Are more likely to be lean and have fewer metabolic issues, better bladder and bowel control as they age

• Will maintain cognitive function for longer periods of time, help reverse early onset CCD

• Will live a more quality based life, likely longer too theoretically

What Happens If We DON’T Do Rehab? … as there is always a change in tissue and instability with injury
• Dogs that don’t exercise are more likely to become injured or prone to neuromusculoskeletal conditions

• Dogs that don’t receive proper physical rehabilitation/physiotherapy post-op/injury are significantly more likely to have loss of joint ROM, muscle contractors, increase scar tissue build up, muscle atrophy

• Dogs that don’t exercise can be more prone to early CCD onset

• Dogs that don’t exercise are more likely to experience early degenerative conditions, pain from arthritis

o Combine OA medication w/rehab to perform rehab more effectively & biomechanically sound

• Dogs that don’t exercise are more likely to be obese – combine weight loss management/in-house food products with physical rehab for proper weight management control
